Client overview
RainSoft / Aquion Water Treatment / Pentair
RainSoft has been one of America’s most trusted names in residential and commercial water treatment since 1953. Founded in Bensenville, Illinois by John Grayson, RainSoft grew over seven decades into a worldwide brand — manufacturing whole-house water conditioning, filtration, and purification systems backed by the industry’s only lifetime guarantee.
The RainSoft brand operated under Aquion, Inc. (formerly Aquion Water Treatment Products), headquartered in Roselle, Illinois. Aquion served as the manufacturer and marketer of a broad portfolio of water treatment solutions across residential and commercial markets, with RainSoft and Erie Water Treatment as residential brands and OptiPure and ClearWater Tech serving commercial customers. Aquion reported revenues of approximately $72 million in 2018.
In February 2019, Pentair plc — a publicly traded global water treatment company (NYSE: PNR) with operations in 34 countries and roughly 10,000 employees — acquired Aquion for $160 million, bringing RainSoft into one of the world’s leading water treatment enterprises. RainSoft continues to operate today as a division of Aquion under the Pentair umbrella.
At the heart of the RainSoft business model is an independent dealer network — more than 150 dealers worldwide operating exclusive sales territories, supported by RainSoft’s training programs, lead generation infrastructure, consumer financing, and dealer services. Managing that network at scale, across geographies and ownership transitions, required digital infrastructure equal to the complexity of the business.
That’s where 305 Spin came in.

HOW THE RELATIONSHIP GREW
Twenty years. One continuous partnership.
305 Spin’s relationship with RainSoft began in 2004 as a web development and support engagement. Over two decades — through two ownership transitions, a migration to cloud infrastructure, and an ERP integration with a Fortune-level parent company — that relationship has grown into one of the most technically complex and enduring partnerships in 305 Spin’s history.
2004 Web Development & Support — RainSoft.com
305 Spin began working with RainSoft on development and ongoing support for RainSoft.com — the national consumer-facing website for the brand. This engagement established the foundation of the partnership and gave 305 Spin deep familiarity with the RainSoft business model, product line, and dealer network structure.
2007 Pipeline Portal — The RainSoft Dealer Extranet
305 Spin designed and built Pipeline — Pipeline.RainSoft.com — a secure dealer extranet that became the operational backbone of the RainSoft dealer network. The platform gave dealers and employees a centralized system for order entry, warranty card registration, sales tracking, and dealer-to-corporate communication. This was a full-stack custom build: Angular frontend, .NET backend, SQL database, and a role-based access system that served both internal corporate users and external franchisees worldwide.
2007–Present Multi-Site Management — 60+ Dealer Websites
In parallel with Pipeline, 305 Spin took over development, hosting, and ongoing management of RainSoft’s broader web presence — growing to more than 60 dealer-specific websites, the national consumer site (RainSoft.com), a RainSoft dealer recruitment website, and several other brand properties. All sites are hosted, maintained, and updated by 305 Spin in coordination with RainSoft and Pentair’s Sales, Marketing, and IT teams.
2019 Pentair Acquisition — Continuity Through Transition
When Pentair acquired Aquion in February 2019, 305 Spin’s role continued without interruption. The team adapted to working with Pentair’s larger corporate structure — coordinating with Sales, Marketing, and IT stakeholders across a global organization — while maintaining the performance and reliability of the systems that RainSoft’s dealer network depended on daily.
Cloud Migration Azure Cloud & AWS S3 Infrastructure
As the Pipeline portal and dealer ecosystem scaled, the infrastructure evolved to match. The platform now runs on Microsoft Azure cloud hosting for web applications and SQL database, with private AWS S3 storage for data and file management. This hybrid cloud architecture provides the uptime reliability, security, and scalability that a worldwide dealer network requires.
Most Recently JD Edwards ERP Integration — Pentair Systems
305 Spin’s most recent major engagement with Pentair was the integration of the RainSoft Pipeline extranet with Pentair’s internal JD Edwards enterprise resource planning system. This integration — connecting Pipeline’s Angular/SQL infrastructure to Pentair’s ERP via API — enabled RainSoft to become fully integrated with Pentair’s accounting and ordering processes for the first time, completing the operational bridge between a legacy dealer-facing platform and a Fortune-level enterprise back office.
THE WORK IN DEPTH
What 305 Spin built and manages.
Pipeline — RainSoft’s Dealer Extranet
Pipeline is the operational hub of the RainSoft dealer network worldwide. Built by 305 Spin in 2007 and continuously developed since, it is a full-stack enterprise web application serving two distinct user populations — internal RainSoft and Pentair corporate employees, and external independent dealers — through a unified platform with role-based access controls that determine what each user can see, do, and report on.
Core capabilities of the Pipeline portal include:
Order entry — dealers submit product orders directly through Pipeline, which connects to inventory and fulfillment workflows
Warranty card registration — dealers register installations for each customer, activating RainSoft’s lifetime warranty and building the customer database
Rewards and points system — RainSoft’s dealer incentive program is administered through Pipeline, tracking points earned from sales volume and customer satisfaction metrics and enabling dealers to redeem rewards
Convention and conference registration — a custom-built registration system handles national and international dealer events, from registration intake through logistics management
Reporting and analytics — role-based dashboards and reports give corporate teams visibility into dealer performance, sales trends, and operational metrics
Lead management — multiple public-facing RainSoft websites feed leads directly into Pipeline’s central database for routing to the appropriate dealer by territory
Pipeline is built on an Angular frontend with a .NET backend and SQL Server database. The system connects to RainSoft’s on-premises network via direct SQL connection for data exchange, and exposes multiple APIs for communication with both internal Pentair systems and external third-party integrations.
JD Edwards Integration — Pentair ERP
The most technically complex recent engagement was the integration of Pipeline with Pentair’s JD Edwards ERP system. JD Edwards is an enterprise-grade Oracle platform used by large organizations to manage accounting, inventory, ordering, and financial operations at scale.
This integration required 305 Spin to build an API bridge between Pipeline’s existing data architecture and Pentair’s JD Edwards environment — enabling order data entered by RainSoft dealers in Pipeline to flow directly into Pentair’s accounting and ordering processes without manual re-entry or data reconciliation.
The result: RainSoft is now fully integrated into Pentair’s enterprise operations. Dealer orders placed through Pipeline appear automatically in Pentair’s financial and inventory systems, eliminating the operational gap that had existed between the dealer-facing platform and the parent company’s back office.
RainSoft.com, 60+ Dealer Websites & Brand Properties
Beyond Pipeline, 305 Spin manages the full RainSoft web ecosystem:
RainSoft.com — the national consumer-facing website, handling brand marketing, product information, and consumer lead generation for the North American and international audience
60+ dealer-specific websites — individually managed sites for RainSoft dealers across the US and internationally, each reflecting the dealer’s local brand presence while maintaining RainSoft’s national standards
RainSoft dealer recruitment website — a dedicated site supporting RainSoft’s dealer acquisition efforts, attracting and qualifying prospective new dealers
Additional brand websites — several other RainSoft and Aquion brand properties hosted and maintained by 305 Spin
All sites in the ecosystem are connected to Pipeline’s central lead database, ensuring that consumer inquiries generated through any RainSoft web property are captured, attributed, and routed to the appropriate dealer automatically.
305 Spin handles all hosting, ongoing maintenance, content updates, and technical support for these properties — coordinating directly with RainSoft’s Sales and Marketing teams and Pentair’s IT organization to keep a complex multi-site ecosystem running smoothly.
WHAT THIS ENGAGEMENT REPRESENTS
More than a vendor. A long-term technology partner.
The RainSoft relationship is one of the clearest illustrations of what 305 Spin actually is and how it works best. It started as a website support engagement in 2004. Within three years it had grown into the design and development of a mission-critical enterprise application — one that today sits at the center of how RainSoft manages its entire worldwide dealer network.
Over 20 years, 305 Spin has navigated two ownership transitions — from Aquion’s independent operation through Mason Wells’ private equity ownership to Pentair’s global enterprise — without losing continuity or performance for the dealers who depend on Pipeline every day. That kind of institutional knowledge — of the platform, the business model, the data architecture, and the people — is not something you rebuild with a new vendor.
When Pentair needed Pipeline integrated with JD Edwards, they came to 305 Spin. When RainSoft needs a dealer’s website updated, they come to 305 Spin. When a new dealer joins the network and needs a site live, 305 Spin handles it. The relationship has outlasted software generations, corporate acquisitions, and more than two decades of technology change — and it continues to evolve.
